The Helmsburg Community Development Corporation works to improve the quality of life in our corner of Brown County — through volunteer projects, community advocacy, and the belief that small towns deserve big investment.
The Helmsburg Community Development Corporation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to bettering life in and around Helmsburg, Indiana. We're located in Brown County — a place known for its natural beauty, its artists, and its tight-knit communities.
HCDC is powered entirely by volunteers who care about the future of this place. Whether it's emergency preparedness, infrastructure improvement, or community events, we show up for Helmsburg because this is home.
We pursue a mix of grant-funded projects and grassroots volunteer efforts. Our work is guided by what the community actually needs — not what looks good on paper.
Serving the Helmsburg area in one of Indiana's most beautiful counties

Projects driven by real needs identified by the people who live here
Helmsburg and the surrounding area currently have no emergency warning siren. When severe weather strikes — tornadoes, straight-line winds, dangerous storms — residents have no outdoor warning system to alert them.
In Brown County's hilly, wooded terrain, cell service is unreliable and weather can change in minutes. An outdoor warning siren is a basic piece of community safety infrastructure that Helmsburg simply doesn't have.
HCDC is actively researching grant opportunities through FEMA, Indiana Homeland Security, and rural community development programs. We're also building a community donation fund to close the gap.
HCDC takes on projects that make a real difference in Helmsburg. Here's what we're working on.
Securing funding for an outdoor emergency siren to protect Helmsburg-area residents during severe weather events. Currently pursuing grants and community donations.
Representing Helmsburg's interests with county government and advocating for the infrastructure and services our community needs and deserves.
Developing our ability to identify and apply for grants — opening doors to funding for safety, infrastructure, and community improvement projects.
HCDC runs on the energy and generosity of people who care about Helmsburg. Here's how you can help.
Lend your time and skills to community projects. Whether it's a couple hours or a regular commitment, every bit of help matters.
